Government Rules

1. Passport and visa requirements: All foreign visitors to Turkey need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond their planned departure date, and some nationalities require a visa for entry into the country. You should check the specific requirements based on your nationality before you travel.

2. COVID-19 rules: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Turkey has implemented various restrictions and guidelines for travelers. These include mandatory mask-wearing in public spaces and on public transportation, social distancing measures, and periodic lockdowns or curfews. You should check the latest rules and restrictions from the Turkish government and your airline before you travel.

3. Customs regulations: There are limits on how much tobacco, alcohol, and other goods you can bring into Turkey without paying duty. You should check with the Turkish customs authority before you travel.

4. Traffic rules: In Istanbul, as in the rest of Turkey, traffic drives on the right-hand side of the road. Pedestrians should use designated crossings, and jaywalking is illegal. Speed limits are generally 50 km/h in urban areas and 90 km/h on highways. The use of seat belts and child car seats is mandatory, and the use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited.

5. Respectful behavior: As with any country, it is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions in Turkey. Dress modestly when visiting mosques or other religious sites, and remove your shoes before entering. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon.
